Cedar Valley's Promise is an Early Childhood Iowa area and represents an umbrella of community initiatives advocating for services to enhance and enrich the lives of young children.
During our 26 years, Cedar Valley's Promise has always believed that access to key resources is important. Every child deserves the opportunity to live in a safe, healthy, loving and supportive community in order to reach their full potential.
Cedar Valley's Promise encourages community groups and individual citizens to commit themselves to action and publicizes opportunities to do so. CVP identifies existing community resources and initiatives, identifies duplication of services for children, and acts a a catalyst to strengthen community support for children 0-5. CVP provides guidance for health, education, and human services, and for the establishment of healthy community relationships.
Cedar Valley's Promise has articulated four underlying beliefs:
1. The time from conception to age five is critical for human development since the basic cognitive, social, and emotional foundations are established in those years.
2. Families are primary caregivers and educators of their children.
3. Families are able to identify their child's basic needs and must be given the opportunity to acquire resources necessary to meet those needs.
4. Families, schools, and the community must work together in partnership to insure the social, emotional, intellectual, physical, and behavioral well-being of children.
Cedar Valley's Promise applies for funding annually from Early Childhood Iowa. The allocation for FY25 is $1,041,284 It is with this funding that Cedar Valley's Promise is able to facilitate services to children 0-5 and their families in Black Hawk County.
A variety of services are funded through contracts with local agencies for child care consultation, child care provider training, child care nurse consultation, preschool scholarships, coordinated intake, family support home visitation, and family support parent education.
Cedar Valley's Promise also provides leadership in the community to plan for present and future needs. CVP brings issues forward that need to be addressed.
Family & Children's Council maintains a directory of services called What's Where in Parenting. It can be found here: https://fccwwip.weebly.com/
In addition, families may need services outside of parenting needs, please visit https://www.onecitycv.org/ for additional resources or download their app.
